Capitalism: A System To Pursue Dreams

Imagine living in a society where you have absolute freedom to pursue your goals and create innovations. Capitalism is an economic system where individuals own and manage businesses for profit where sufficient economic resources are available or created. It is being used in many countries around the world in order to change the world by creating qualified, large companies and providing jobs or different life opportunities to people. With providing sustainability of production, consumption and income division in global scale, capitalism is the system most conducive to allowing people to pursue their dreams and creativity.

Critics of capitalism expresses that it is generally carried out with profit-based policies with the uncontrolled use of natural resources instead of eco-friendly plans and it harms the environmental opportunities that humanity will need in the future to develop the world. However, since the beginning of the technological age, many projects that have changed life of many people have been inspired by nature and realized with the most accurate use of resources. Therefore, in the reality, more than 80% of start-ups in the capitalist system carry out various projects in order to protect the environment and prevent the damage on nature in order to secure the future of themselves and the world they live in, actually with the aim of maintaining the profits they earn. This means projects structured with the highest efficiency use of existing resources increase creativity and make an impact on lives of many more people by providing higher incomes. Today, we can see many individuals around us who realize their dreams with start-ups based on their extraordinary ideas provided by mostly natural resources, such as Iseult Ward, Melissa Wijngaarden, Nzambi Matee and many more. To sum up, capitalism prioritizes profit “by” encouraging companies to work towards protecting the environment, aiming for individuals within the system to realize their dreams in a better and livable world full of opportunities.

Many people think that capitalism increases income inequality by ensuring that the rich around the world stay rich using their existing capital; while the poor always remain poor because they do not have assets, thereby labor in various regions getting cheaper and exploited. But today, many rich and successful people come from poor families and difficult lives, aiming to change their own lives and the world. Many outstanding society figures such as Larry Ellison, Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo Dicaprio have reached the point where they are now by starting their lives with zero capital and working without giving up. For example, Jan Koum, who sold one of the world's major digital apps (WhatsApp) to Facebook for $19.3 billion at the age of 38, was unemployed and barely finding food in his youth. Jeff Bezos, on the other hand, was working at McDonalds and barely earning his living, before founding Amazon at the age of 30 and becoming the richest person of the world with 145,5 billion dollar net worth. These names which capitalism has brought to the top, show that people who work non-stop will always get paid for it and the money earned is directly proportional to the effort put in. Consequently, everyone chooses the life they will live according to the labor they give, and capitalism is an intermediary for people to be successful and chase their dreams, with the system based on not giving up, instead of providing inequality.

Opponents think that capitalism forms a world which is essentially egocentric and disregards the collective good for societies. Even though individual success is valued most highly in capitalism, it also promotes a system where people can make a positive impact all together by variation of different studies especially with the commercial based connections between start-ups through their inventions and products. Today, 90% of the business world consists of personal-based start-ups and these start-ups contribute to reducing the unemployment levels of societies by creating 50% of job opportunities. Thus, the fact that there are so many people working on different or similar global problems ensures that the best products are always offered to the society. Also some prosperous businesses have developed social responsibility programs and made humanitarian contributions all around the world. Thanks to these supports, a global change takes place by bringing many needy people to life again and forming new enterprises to the ecosystem. As a result, capitalism can be a force for good, enabling societies to achieve goals together and making the world a better place by variety it provides.

In conclusion, capitalism ensures that the capital is transferred to the right people by forming global income distribution according to the labor given by the individuals, and it offers the best products by the highest efficiency without wasting natural resources. Hence, it aims the collective good for societies around the world; which gives the chance to individuals to pursue their dreams by hard work and create innovations with the opportunities they reach.
